Anyone currently driving 530i and has test driven the one with the new valvetronic 3 liter engine?
If you have can you comment on the difference in feel; power delivery and most of all.. would you trade in old 530i for the new one?
Any comment on the new engine if BMW has fixed the sluggishness at low rpm problem on the old one?

happy bimmering!

yes I have the new 3.0 N52 engine, only had the car for about 2 weeks so still running it in, but compared to my previous 530i SE I would list the major differences as:

- pulls very very well from low revs, at this time i'm only running in so not using kick down or sport mode and keeping revs below 4500 rpm. even inside these constraints performance is very impressive, as i would expect with 258BHP on tap.

- fuel economy even at these early stages is already better than my last car, currently returning 31.9 MPG, no doubt also due to the fact that this new engine is 130KG lighter.

- smoothness, engine feels smoother and more refined than previous 3.0i, very refined on long runs

i guess you need to try one for yourself to decide if it is worth the upgrade.

You guys in the UK sure are lucky. I am getting one of the first 530i's in SA with the new engine, and it only arrives end of MAY!!!
I've been told it is also the first customer order MSports pack to arrive in SA!

northermonkey, could you please post some pics of your engine bay?

Hi, Yes -- please post a nice hi-res 800x600 minimum front shot of the engine. I need to update the engine gallery on the site here with the new engine pictures which we don't have any of (yet).
