The problem reocurred after they fitted the new pressure sensor, so I took it back in. The warranty has since lapsed, and they're talking about goodwill gestures. Anything less than 100 % goodwill will result in a metaphorical gesture from my middle finger.

I have exactly the same prob in my 535d, ive just had a brand new main dealer fitted engine turbo and exhaust after a fight with a large lake
It was running fine untill the other day when the same thing happened ill slowly press the gas pedal no build up of power till i get about half way down then whoooom thrown back in seat as turbo kicks in
Ive also noticed a smell of burning from the exhaust when this happens ??
It happens maybe once a week took it the main dealer who found no faults, he advised if it happens again to take it straight to them where someone will road test it ?
Let me know if you figure the prob
Any ideas anyone ???

After quite a bit of toing and froing between the dealership and BMW UK in Bracknell, they've decided it needs a new turbo! 100% goodwill from BMW. (And I wouldn't have accepted anything less)

TopBanana,
Smarty156 and I have been having similar issues with ours, very interesting that your dealer has diagnosed a faulty turbo.
Did you notice any shuddering or surging? Did the car feel like it was choking itself or "driving through treacle" ?
Smarty156 and I are both being taken down the path of "reseting the particle filter" and "forced regeneration of the particle filter" so I would be interested to know if you experienced similar issues to us and maybe we can suggest the turbo to our dealers ?
Let us know if the turbo fixed the problem.
