Speaking of courtesy cars, I've got my BMW booked in for next wednesday here in Germany. They offered me a "Courtesy Car" (which I put in quotes because that's what they called it, in English, even though we're in Germany). Amusing thing is that they said it would cost ?39 per day. Funny use of the term Courtesy if you ask me. I wonder if Hertz and Avis call their rental cars courtesy cars too It's not just a Germany thing. When I had some work done on my previous car, an Audi, I got a courtesy car then and all I had to do was return it with the same amount of fuel in it.

I thought the new type should be the vortex one. Did you put in a bog roll type. They are worse than usless and do clog very quickly. The vortex ones should last for ever and no chance of increased crank case pressure.

If looking for a warranty, seriously consider third party stuff.

I paid ?250 for a years cover on my 530D from Warranty Direct.

4 weeks later they paid nearly ?800 towards the cost of rear wishbone replacement.

They only cover the parts named in the warranty, so look carefully, but they are massively cheaper than BMW.

I will certainly be looking at getting a new warranty from somewhere. Is it possible to take out a new warranty with BMW after ours expired a few months ago?

Just to let you know that I got my car back on Friday afternoon. The total price I had to pay was ?566.86. Quite cheap in the end considering the repairs that have taken place.
I have done 2 long motorway journeys in it now and the fuel consumption is also much better as I got 43.6 mpg on both journeys and I wasnt really hanging around either.

Thnaks for everyones help and advice!

Glad you got it sorted after all the agro! Enjoy you're car now.

Did they say what they believed had actually caused the problems in the first place?

They only told me that it was mechanical failure. I asked if a poor service could cause the problem and they said no (I guess they would say that though as they were the ones that serviced it in October!)
So I am not really sure. The car feels like brand new now though and although I have not really given it a hard time, it feels a lot more responsive and is certainly much better on the fuel consumption. I am still not sure what may have caused the problem but by the fact that they have replaced all the parts and covered most of the labour just makes me think that it was something more to do with the service?
