Hi all, I have a 2004 530d e60. Whilst driving last night I suddenly lost power. the car started to make a noise under the engine and I could only hit speeds of 25-30mph. Also white smoke started to come out of the exhaust when the accelerator was pressed firmly. any ideas?

sounds like over-fuelling, probably an injector or two on the way out. mine used to do the same thing before i got rid of it, how many miles?

if the noise is like a loud diesel knock, then it is most likely an injector, they ain't cheap either. £180+vat each i think. mine did the same thing, i was planning on changing it anyway so i put a injector cleaner into the fuel and it cured it long enough to trade the car in. good luck

Get all sensors checked; MAF, intake air temp, charged air temp, exhaust temp, exhaust backpressure, etc...

But to me it sounds like a turbo, I hope it's not though...
Maybe you should also check the "DPF thread" in my signature.

took the car to any indy and they have told me that the car needs a new turbo . not a happy bunny as they have told the whole job to replace the turbo, hoses, clips and filters will cost around £1600. whilst the turbo was off they also told me that the exhaust manifold has a hairline crack which also needs replacing. so my total bill will be close to 2k.

Sorry to hear that, but when you get the car fixed you'll be a happy bunny.

sorry for the bum steer and sorry about the turbo, i feel your pain, it's the last thing you want to hear. at least it's about the only major thing that can go wrong with a 530d, everything else is bombproof so you should have years of fun ahead!

turbo must've been on it's last legs on my old car too

except.. ahemm... swirl flaps get them sorted as well, otherwise there might just be no engine to speak of at some point
