530d BHP???
#1
Hi guys. 1st post from a newbie in the UK!
Just thinking about buying a 2005 530d. I understand the power output is about 218PS but a new 530d's power output is now 235PS. So could someone tell me what month/year the power increased from 218 to 235?
Many thanks.
Andy

Since 2005 the 530d is 231 ps.
How would I tell if a 530d had the 235PS engine? Is there a plate with it stamped on somewhere?

it depends on the production date.
check those 2 links and see which one is yours

Another way would be by getting the VIN code of the car and either going to a BMW dealership to have them print out a detailed information about the car or just going to www.realoem.com and entering the VIN code there. At that site you won't see a list of the options but you can see the engine at least. Hope that helps

So it doesnt look like there is a lot of difference in performance (0.3 sec quicker 0-60). With only 13bhp more and no increase in torque, are these cars much different to drive? Has anyone driven both?
Just wondering if it is really worth buying a newer 530d just to get the 231bhp engine?
Thanks all for your replies!

If you were to get it tuned (with a diesel - why wouldn't you !!??) then you might notice some greater improvements in torque on the newer engine.
Cracking 530d you got there BTW. ;-). Is it tuned?

I have a 218bhp version, and my college a 231bhp and there is a lot of difference between the two cars (mine is a touring with 19inch, his a sedan with 18's) but his car pulls away from mine very fast.

Wondering if the 231 version is only a tuned (by BMW) version of the 218PS anyway.

Mine has a tuningbox, which gives a noticeable difference in torque.
It's not the most sophisticated of methods to tune, but it's pure plug and play and I was able to transfer it over from my 525d without any additional cost.
