I would say go for 530d, i have one for just under a year now and am impressed with the MPG, i can get 500+ miles on full tank, in and around town prob the 400 mark, and that by getting the ECU remapped, and in doing so i have the bhp UP FROM THE 231 Standard to 288 bhp, which i chuffed with, and this car can MOST certainly get to speeds excess of 160mph
I would recommend 530d and then get it Chipped after. You wont be dissapointed...!!!

100k in km behind and 90k with remap. With full tank, light trafic and foot more than 1200km possible. Manual tranny.
530d:
-for manual guy
-higher spec versus 535d money
-better mileage
535d:
-for auto lovers
-more power on stcok to stock and remap to remap
-higher spec as std
For me 530d is only one because I refuse to buy auto tranny

I had a 530d (218bhp) for a month but it had technical problems (not engine related, idrive) so I returned it and got a 535d. The 535d has pretty much identical economy, much better sound, all the power you could need, higher spec, and feels like a limo or a hot rod just by moving your foot half an inch.
The joy of the 535d is NOT ultimate top speed, but the immediate attainment of higher velocity than any car around you. Nothing can touch it in mid range accelaration.
For ?1500 extra it's a no brainer.
