Get in to both and have a test drive (at least 30 mins each) - that's what I did.....and my decision is in my name

Get the 535d if a private buyer or you will regret it everytime you see one!

I can assure you that come selling time you will benifit more by spending the ?1500 extra you'd probably loose an extra ?3-4k on the 530d over a 3 year period. The 535d is far more a desirable car hance you wouldnt have been tempted

Hi,

I was in this very same position a week ago. I really wanted a 535d but couldn?t justify spending the extra 2000-3000 pounds. So managed to source a 530d with a high spec, good miles in silver grey and comes with 20inch rims already.

I am going to pick this up next week so haven't lived in it as yet - but what I can say in terms of performance it is blistering! My last car was a supercharged modified E46 330ci?..so I thought going to a diesel saloon would be taking a knock in performance - boy was I wrong! The auto box is rapid, smooth and effortless.

The best thing is once you are bored of the power (I doubt that will happen) or just feel you want more - you can get these babies remapped to push out around 30-40 extra horses and a lot more torque to (apparently) make the close to or maybe even quicker than the 535d in standard form.

535d is the better car - no doubt, but the 530d is by no means a poor substitute?..thats my opinion. Good luck with your decision.

Harv

really depends on which 530d it is - there is one with 218 hp and there is one with 231 hp. the 231hp engine is very good - very recommendable. the 218hp is good but not as good as the 231 hp (in terms of power consumption and driveability) or a 272 hp which is just an amazingly fast car. you don't feel the torque that much on the 535d, all you see is how the cars behind get smaller and smaller in the rear mirrors... And yes: i have driven all three: mine is a 218hp, our copmany car is a 535d and i test drove a 231hp...

cheers

I drove a 530d and thought it was brilliant. So why did I pick the 530 petrol?? Well. I dont do many miles and love the pur - something thats missing from the 530d. I do have to say though, its a beast and probably feels as if it has more torque than the Ferrari 355 I drove a few years back. When you put your foot down though the mpg suffers.... but that can be said on all cars!!

Hi there

I am about to join the ranks of the E60 owners and get myself an m sport. Up to now I was about to go for a 2005 530d msport, get the 19" m172 wheels on it and I thought that was fine. And that I would have alot of car.

Fate brought me across a lovely 2005 535d msport with the 19" rims, its about ?1500.00 more than I budgeted so I decided to look into here to see what the right thing to do is. Now dont get me wrong, I like my fast cars and have had a few, but there are cameras and cops everywhere. Put my foot down and guaranteed theres a kojak with a kodak. So cruise control has saved my license. But what if...?

On here it seems its a no brainer and the 535d is the only car to go for, but do you think the extra power is really worth it, is the 530d a slump? Is it much more thirstier than the 530d? I drive about 800 miles a week so the fuel economy difference would be noticeable. Here in Cyprus where I live the only 5's going around are 520's and I do not have the opportunity to test drive one to see the difference. I will be ordering from abroad and will get to drive it for the first time after I have bought it so any advice would be very much appreciated.

I'd go with the 535d : the consumption should be similar to 530d . And you'd have one of the most fast diesel car!
(and you can come here and say you can remap it till 400 HP J/K )
