My 530i has the annoying condition (especially during warm-up cycle) of hesitating when you step on the accelerator, then lurching forward from a standing start. I thought this behavior disappeared with the advent of fuel injection and onboard computerized engine controls. What's up with this in a $50K+ car?

Has anyone else experienced this condition, and if so, was your dealership service tech able to correct it?

I think you are talking about DSC Dynamic Stability Control, it prevents tires from slipping or spinning out of traction. The engine automatically reduces rev when wheels start spinning out of traction.

I had same problem with my UK Spec 525i

I took it back and they re programmed the car. Problem solved!

I now have a diesel 530 and thankfully no problems on startup / gearchange

My 545 had the same problem. They updated the software on it and this solved the problem. It runs great now at any speed.

Thumbs up

Hi there

Is this "software" update same as IDrive software update?? And is this update necessary for all E60s? Ever since BMW decided to go really computer techy, all these "updates" are getting me confused. Feels like Im driving a PC instead of a BMW.....

guys, have you ever felt that sometimes the speed gauge doesnt match with the real speed. sometimes my speed gauge showed me 60 mph, but outside i felt this was not 60 mph!. but, sometimes it didnt happen.

i thought it was related with your problem about the engine hesitation. any opinion?

I just took my car in this week for the same issue and a service engine light. They claim had a recall and updated the software to fix that. I cant believe the software can effect those mechanics but according to BMW it does....so basically, yes your driving a DELL.

The speedometer will rarely match your exact speed - it's generally showing more than what you're actually going at.
