My Ride: 525i Sport. Mystic Blue. Logic 7, 6 CD Changer, Floormats. Just call me the last of the big spenders!!
I had the dealer start both in the showroom. I couldn't live with that diesel sound. It sounded like a london taxi. I thought advances in diesel technology included quieting down that diesel sound. I was wrong.
I'd be advertising my depature to my neighbours every morning if I bought a diesel.
Once they make a diesel that sounds like a petrol engine, then I may be in the market for it.

I agree that it was an artificial test. But in some respect it was a controlled experiment. Both cars were started up in the showroom.
Buying this BMW was a dream for me and I wanted the total BMW package that I dreamed of. The diesel sound did not impress me. I discussed this with the salesperson. I had actually intended to purchase a 525D, but it was a purchase based on childhood ambitions and the sound of the diesel didn't tally with my expectations.
It was probably an impractical decision in terms of fuel economy and torque, the diesel is the better choice in that respect, but I loved the silky smooth sound of the petrol engine.
