I have been told by a reliable sorce that the 523i badge is set to make a comeback next year following revisions to the engine fitted in the 520i. That enguine is currently a 2.2ltr but the revisions take it to around 2.3 hence the change of badge. I'm not sure what is going become the entry level engine at this stage.

320 is going to use the valvetronic 4-pot.
So if 520 is going to be around, guess it's going like that.

I think there will be a 523i. This is because in the new E90 there are only 2 6 cyilnder engines which are 2.5 and 3.0. The 320i has a 4 cyl engine.
So i think there has to be another 6cyl engine which will be probably be an enlarged current 2.2 to 2.3 with around 180bhp.

M630, thanks.
No valvetronic? If with that, the bhp should be better than that. (like 2.5 upped from 192 to 218, and 3.0L from 231 to 25X?)

You are right about the 523i, if you take a look at the A6 Saloon range in the UK and have a look at the entry level model that will give you a clue as to what the entry level model will be
I guess the engine in the 523 will be based on the new 3.0 engine in the 630 and E90 330.
I have also heard there is going to be a 550i, but can't remember what engine that has, other than a V8.
