Looking at Realoem, it seems that both cars uses the same short engine. Engine-wise, what have BMW done to detune the 523i? Is it possible to 'uncork' the 523i's engine to produce the full 218ps?

no...as i understand there are some mechanical componets that are changed between the two engines. perhaps with a remap you would help get some more power...but i dont think you can reach that 218hps...

I dont think the software will help you at all. There seems to be another couple of componets bolted on the 525 engine. Those clever BMW people

I've searched Realoem. So far, all the engine internals seems to be identical (same p/n), so what else??
