...not sure how they would fit in in to the range without overlap.
Re e60, indeed.

A modernised variant into the F10 - at least up till F10 mid-life kick.

The only solution would be to discontinue the new 525d engine. But it came with the LCI and it would seem strange to let go of that engine so soon. And there's no use releasing a 523d during the last year of production for the E60/61.

By the way, there will be a 520i again this fall. Anybody that knows if it's a 4 cylinder and how many hp?
4-Cyl with 170bhp.

All information is given in a Word Document at the "Download 1" link given above.

Maybe site admin can include it on the info pages as EU MY2008 Press Information.

I recently spoke to our BMW account manager about the 520d and he was saying that it wasn't that well received, because most customers felt a 5er should have 6 cylinders - and we've heard that here in the forums enough times! The 525d seems to be well received and also well position. I personally see no place for the 523d in the near future. Shame, because the bi-turbo would get rid of the 2.0d's sub 1900rpm poor pick-up.

The 1 series is going to be expanded from the 3dr and 4dr, with a coupe and cabrio. I could see a 323d being more successful than a 325d from a positioning point of view. The X3 could do with a gap filler between the 2.0d and 3.0d. So with these possible models to put the engine into, it wouldn't surprise me if the 2.0d bi-turbo didn't make its way into the 5er.

Nice to see BMW putting the pressure on, especially with all the new engines / models coming from Audi and Benz

true, won't be catching him saying those kind of comments any more!

Will be interesting to see how 5er drivers' perceptions change towards a 4cyl. From what I can gather, its been perfectly normal for some time to have a 4cyl in the E-class Merc or Audi A6, but not in the 5er...

Its only been 7 years since I left the UK, but back then it was as if almost every exec had a company car as part of the overal salary package. If that hasn't changed, the 520d would be a prime choice, especially with the UK taxes and fuel costs?
