My Ride: E60 520d Pre LCI
Default 520d not reaching operating temperature

Hey everyone,

I had my BMW E60 520d (pre-LCI) completely overhauled by a specialized shop, and during the process, the DPF was gutted. Additionally, about a year ago, I completely removed the EGR system, including the EGR cooler, and blocked it off.

However, I never had the car tuned after the DPF removal. Since then, my engine doesn't reach operating temperature and struggles to go beyond 60°C.

I replaced the thermostat in January 2024 with a RIDEX thermostat (a budget brand sold by Autodoc here in Germany). Could it be that the cheap thermostat has failed and is stuck open?

Any insights or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Replace the thermostat would be my suggestion. Simple test would be to check the water hoses temp. At operating temp they should both be hot.

SOLVED: It was the thermostat!
I replaced the faulty one which was stuck open.
Thanks for all the replies!
