I know many of my fellow UK E60 drivers have gone for the 520D including me.

Now a few months have passed and we've got a few miles on the clock and engines have started to loosen, I wondered what the opinion was.

Had mine a couple of months now (Manual box) and it's done just over 4000 Miles of mixed driving and I'm really pleased. Performance is fine and over mixed driving it returns 42MPG and on a motorway run 80-85MPH its does high 40's.

Could not see the point in paying anothr ?3000 for a 525.

what do you think?

Could not agree more, love my 520d M Sport

I have 14,000 on the clock now so it really is nice and loose and it goes really well, my friend who as a 530d always seems surprised at how good my 520d is. I think everyone thinks they are heavily inferior to a 525d and the reality is they are not.

P.S. I too get great fuel econemy 42mpg general driving and I actually achieved 52mpg going to skegness from huddersfield!

I have just done 3K in My 520d MSport and I love it i'm getting mid 40'sMPG, like the nice little features no one tells you about like the way the breaks hold on for a second to stop you rolling backwards on a hill start!!

You can't buy better for the money!!

Just had my first service 18k, averaging 40 mpg, 2nd gear starts are fun, 1st a bit low. Other than that mine's quick enough for me, cruises silently at 90mph - best of all looks awesome, and I only pay 18% tax!!! no brainer.

Cheers

see my friends car is doped to 200hp and now it is a new car, its in sig

the oem engine vs weight is a bit too slow and heavy but still a nice e60, very good consumption and nice BMW I just would prefer the more juice, like did also for my 530d.

I once drove a friends E39 525d, which I think had about 163hp, and thought it was excellent so a 520d which again I believe has 163hp must be good. I've driven a new 320d and 120d so I can understand what the power delivery must be like in the 520d.

I've also got a 520D auto which I have had since march and done around 7 000 miles so far, looking at my avrage I am getting way lower than you guys at only 32.1mpg.

Most of my journeys are fast motorways or around London area but in general I am happy with the fuel economy. I can fill up drive to Edinburgh and still have enough to get me to Glasgow & back to Edinburgh which is more than my old Volvo S60 D5 could manage. The engine is freeing up nicely now and the car feels plenty fast enough for me.

Had mine for just over a month and done just over 2800 miles. It's really starting to loosen up and I love it more and more. I'm averaging in the mid 40's - high 40's on the motorway.
