Yes, it really sounds like the particule filter issue. My dealer is also unable to completely solve it on my car. The last time I complained about it they tuned the EGR valve to open widely. I don't really understand the meaning but my dealer told me that my car is tuned as "cars for high altitude countries". That clearly helps but don't completely solve the problem.

hi, I think I've got the same problem, I will expain what is going on with my car 2006 E60 520D (with schnitzer chip)
Just wonder if there is solution for that.

My dealer told me that they will set computer in mode "clean particule filter", then I had to drive "stable" minimum 30 min with speed more then 60 km/h. Wow !
after that my engine was working properly. BUT in 3 weeks of driving I got the same
I've made only 200 km. Now my car is driving realy slow
I've called him, and he told me that my car will automatically switch to mode "clean particule filter" ... so I decided to drive 30 min 60km/h BUT it does not helped
I did it several times without any results.

Next week I will go to dealer to remove chip for testing.

S henge - how old is the car - you're saying 2006 but how many miles? My late '05 registered 520d has now done 18000 miles and although I still have the uneveness of the particle filter clean every couple of hundred miles, it's much less noticeable now the car's done more miles.
There's never any issue when the engine's cold - I thinkthe clean function only works on a warm engine.

Just to keep you all up to date, it goes in on Monday morning for two days. My only worry is that now the weather is warming up it won't show the cold start problem to be as bad as it has been...

It's now with the dealer. The technician took it out for a test drive with me and acknowledged the problem. His initial assessment is that it might be related to the turbo. He said there is too much lag and when it kicks in it's too sudden. Wait and see now, I guess.

Just picked up the car and they have resolved the power issue & also said it now runs well from cold (though I haven't been able to test this yet). They said the problem was a faulty air flow sensor which was reading the wrong temperature and causing the turbo not to function properly. The power is now smooth throughout the range and the turbo kick is smoother.

Thanks to all who offered advice and opinions on this thread.

i have a 530d with 6spd and i have the same issue - it is got to a stage where i have advertised my car. The point, every 200-300 km, the filter goes into burning mode and to do this efficiently, one needs to be driving at high speeds. since i do only city driving, the burning is not done effectively resulting in the burning taking long (like an hr) and unfortunately too often.

remedy from stealer: none...

cheers rumman
