Welcome to the Forums and congrats on your new ride!!!
You should be very happy about your actual mileage in 520d no matter the way you drive,
it will either be around 5,6l/100km with a light foot
or more like 7l/100km if a sporty spirit gets into you
Either way: it will easily make around 1000 kms on a full tank making it a very very economic machinery!
Here's my average consumption on long runs:

Congrats on the new motor.
I just checked my car (520d manual, 06, 60,000 Km, 2 yrs old) and the trip computer says 6.9l/100km. I haven't reset it in a long time and the driving is mixed urban/rural.

I still haven't picked her up - something about a secretary having to finalise some registration forms. I assume it has made a tour of Lapland by now.

Hi Stimpy
I have a 2008 E61 520d and have had it for roughly 3 months....combined consumption so far is 6.3 liters/100km....I have to say I have been very impressed with milage so far....I can't say that I have a lead foot either...I guess the milage really depends on how you drive...I had one 400km trip that we got 5.2 liters/100km....but that was strictly motorway driving....

No pics
Hey chaps,
So, last Thursday, The Valley Brothers* finally kept their promise, and I picked her up. The next day, I took her for the 165km drive to Tampere, and she was absolutely lovely. My predecessor was a VW Passat 2.0l FSI '05 - and this is just a different category of car.
Here are a couple of pics. They're not the best (the weather here has been lousy); I'll post improvement when the weather turns for the better (hopefully before next summer).
I am a happy new owner!

18000 miles to date in a March 08 520d MSport manual E60(*), averaging 45mpg (accurately measured). Over 50mpg easily possible with less spirited driving (though the car doesn't really encourage this). Range is c. 650 miles which is appreciated given my mileage. Engine took 7-10k to loosen up but performance now almost on a par with my previous 525d manual E61. Hasn't got the six cylinder smoothness, but pretty good for a four, and as a UK resident I can feel smug about paying much less tax to our government.

Congratulation on your beautiful car. You'll love it and see that the 520d has plenty of power for everyday driving.
I have driven 45000km with my 2007 520d LCI (old engine type, 163hp). Average consumption is 6.5l/100km including Germany.
Average: 6.5l/100km
Record for 10km: less than 3.5l/100km
100km/h cont: ~4.0l/100km
120km/h cont: ~5.0l/100km
200km/h cont: ~10l/100km
These are all i-drive readings, approx 5% optimistic. I think the consumption is impressive for such a car. You should easily be able to get more than 1000km out of a tank.
Good luck & enjoy!

Send in some better pics, when you have washed it (IF it stops raining here in Finland).
The car is Platin Grey metallic with beige interior, isn't it, but not the Business model?
