Hey all, ijust got a 2006 5 series and i have some problems.

i might have a problem with my fuel tank cover... With the car locked or unlocked, i still can slide my fingernail in the gap between the fuel tank cover and the car's body and open the cover open. Is it supposed to be like this?

I also have a problem with my windsrceen washer tank being marked as empty on idrive when in fact it is full. Anyone knows where the sensor for this is located maybe it is stuck?

also, the car CD player is not working, displays a medium error whenever any CD is inserted in the drive. I called up the dealer and he said he will be changing it himself this saturday. Dealer is not a BMW approved dealer and he does not have the usual BMW computer system. I have read that replacing the CD player might require idrive re-coding etc.... is this true?? Should i allow a non bmw approved dealer to mess with this? Thanks!

ok. 1. Fuel tank cover-open the cover door and lock the car doors. You should see a small pin pop out at the back of the fuel fill area. If it doesn't pop out, its either a blown fuse or the fuel door lock actuator has gone bad.
2. Washer level-there should be a sensor in the washer tank which may have gone bad. turn the front wheels full left and remove the screws at the lower area of the inner fender liner to access the washer tank. The sensor goes in from the bottom of the washer tank I think. I don't exactly remember.
3. Cd player-not 100% but it shouldn't need recoding after replacement

These cars can be complicated, can't they?

Hey thanks for your feedback! I managed to 'fix' the faulty washer fluid fluid by shorting the sensor. It is located bottom left front of the car. You only need to unscrew the 2 screws at the bottom and gain access to the sensor. I stuck a wire between the 2 poles and now the sensor is no longer reporting a fault.... bad thing is that if i really run out of washer fluid i will not know, but thats no big deal. If anyone needs further instructions on this let me know.

With regards to the fuel tank not locking, the lock had fallen inside, and FINALLY i managed to get it out of there and it is now locking with the car!

Thanks to all for feedback! especially pauliehcfr
