After showing off their BlueTec-equipped diesel six-cylinder engine at the Detroit Auto Show, BMW indicated that they would be installing oil-burners in their US offerings in 2008. Yesterday, prior to the opening of the Geneva Motor Show BMW CEO Dr. Norbert Reithofer reaffirmed that diesels would be available in US-market BMWs beginning with the X5 and 5-series models. Diesel engines make up about forty percent of BMW's sales worldwide, but are currently unavailable here. He also stated that the mild hybrid system they are jointly developing with DaimlerChrysler would be on sale in about two years time.

Depends... which ones faster? From a stop and from a roll. the 535d Euro Spec is Blazing fast on highway runs.

I had thought that in the triple digits that hp takes over. Down low is where torque is king and a remapped 535d has plenty of that. A Vishnu PROcede 535i will put over 320+ hp to the wheel. What are the thoughts of the 535d owners?

0-60? 50-90? Standing start 1/4 mile? Try doing it on a 25% incline!

Not so weird b/c the 535d only has a 3.0 engine.

No infra for deasent diesel but most of all, full lack of attitude and responsibility.

IMHO 90% of Diesel drivers do so because they think that the car is cheaper to run!
As for infrastructure for diesel distribution in the US - what makes you think that? Didn't legislation for ULS availability come into force last summer?
