I just finished changing the spark plugs on my 2004 530i.

Dealer accidentally sent me 1 BOSCHE plug with the other 5 NGK. I went ahead and installed the BOSCHE.

Does mixing plugs like this matter?

Yes it does matter. Having a different heat rating can make a difference. Get the right plug.

No, it does not matter as long as the parts are compatible. NGK's are just fine.

I _highly_ disagree. If you're just doing this to get people to buy things from you... it's a rotten practice.

I'd get the same NGK spark plug. Different plugs may produce slightly different results. I'm sure it works totally OK and or_550i has a good point but a new NGK spark plug is about $7 at most (when buying the best iridium one). For a peace of mind, $7 is nothing,

What are the part numbers? Check gap and heat. I don't care if they are compatible why risk it for a few bucks? Are they iridium, platinum or copper?

I contacted Jason at Tischer BMW about this. I ordered the parts from here a while back but only noticed I had a wrong plug mixed in yesterday while installing them. Looks like it was an honest mistake. I am sure he will get back to me soon and send me the correct one free of charge.

That's a mighty big assumption to make about how I do business. First of all, why do you highly disagree? Do you even know the differences between the two plugs he has? Secondly, I don't even sell spark plugs.

Looks like the OP will be getting the right plug from his dealer which is the correct thing to do IMHO.

Would you run 3 Goodyear tires and run 1 Kumho?

Actually yes I would if money was tight and the other 3 were practically new.
