I think I got a little overzealous today and did 4500 RPM while accelerating away from a G35 that was tailgating me on the highway. Since I have only done about 600 KMs and I am still under my 2000KM break-in period, is this bad for the engine or other components in any way? I was only doing 4500 RPM for about 3 seconds before I let go of the gas and proved a point. I did not use kick-back mode or anything like that. I know I did only 500 RPM more than the recommended maximum limit, so I am guessing it's no big deal. Right?

I went over a bunch accidentally the second day I had the car... maybe hit 6000 or so I think. Just briefly .... I was taking my wife up the twisties toward Mount Rainier south of Wilkeson - Carbon River Gorge. Yikes! It was at 6000 in nothing flat!
No problems but only 13K miles.

Oh, I thought it said 4000 RPM. I'm being a little paranoid. It's not only my first E60 but my first NEW BMW. The last one I had was used. PHEW! Thanks wlkonacloud!

Cool! I have a feeling short bursts are fine, which is good for people like us BUT that does not mean that I plan to do it again..."plan" being the key word here.

Not a big deal. Red lining a stone cold engine would be an issue...

That is ok. You were probably busy with your sweet 16 b-day party.
