So today I was drivin 100 mile highway trip in 88 degrees in my 530 07 and was getting 40mpg. I have lightweight wheels and tires and had a quarter tank is that wierd
I've done 37 mpg with cruise set at 125km/hr and a/c running the whole time. so its not impossible to get 40mpg was there a tail wind? how fast were you driving?
Petrol or diesel, i suppose the first as you said highway
Not too surprising if you kept a constant speed. I don't know how accurate our MPG gauge is, but i cruise at times and try to keep it at 30 mpg or above....unless I have to downshift :D
That's good mpg! I have hills and wind to deal with. 32 is my best so far.

BTW: I've seen low 30s mpg on my 530 gasoline engine a few times, but I've never heard of anyone getting over the low 30s with an automatic. Were magnets involved? http://www.bmwblog.com/wp-content/uploads/april1.jpg |

Sorry guys it was 88 F, 60 percent humidity and I did it both there and back on the same route so that covers any hills or tailwind for the most part.
Only mods I have are the scoop and KN filter, velocity csl wheels and tires combined weight of 46 pounds lighter wheels/tires, removed spare and almost no gas so those two are good for 130 pounds or so plus the tires is maybe 175 pounds less than an "average full tank of gas" 530. I recently had my cylinder head replaced with the new updated one due to the lifter issue-that is what I am thinking is the new cylinder head/ valvle train is more efficient I also cleaned my MAF a couple times in the last 2 months. I was pretty impressed Oh ya-important thing is I have my tires inflated 42 rears and 38 fronts which definetly helps a lot |

Conservatively driven at a constant 55mph over 50 miles or so the best overall average I've been able to record was about 34mpg. But as soon as traffic showed up it dropped to about 28mpg for the total trip. I did see (at least according to the obc) periods when I was getting ~ 40mpg but that is an instantaneous reading and not an average over the entire trip. I too am running CSLs and keep my tires inflated at 38f / 42r ... The xi does take it's toll on fuel economy as does the automatic transmission. |
