I'm sure the 3.0d goes well however with 204bhp and 302lb ft of torque its probably only marginally faster than your 2.5d.

The new 3 is probably nearer to the 5 but that doesn't mean you should get one like other traitors I could mention

Repairs been dalyed for a day, get the 330 tomorrow, I'll post a comparison as soon as I've had a chance to give it a blast. Actually, before my E39 I did have a 323i, exceptional fun, missed it a bit when I moved up to 520i but needed a bigger car. Couldn't be happier with my 525d E60 though, by far the best I've had ............so far.

330 arrived, 525 taken away
Haven't had a chance to take it out yet but the very first impression from getting in the cabin is how brilliant the E60 cabin is in comparison to previous models (the 330 is an 04 model) of BMW or any other car for that matter. I know the E60 interior gets a lot of critisism but with the iDrive it is just smart and uncluttered. The 330 has pretty much all options, consequently the dashboard centre consol etc are cluttered and too busy. Can't wait for my E60 back already.....

Right. Just been out for a few miles. Goes like stink, very quick, not as cultured as my E60 so might just feel much quicker....... Confirmed my thoughts on the E60 interior being much classier (although presumaly the E90 has moved much nearer the E60?)
However I've paired my Nokia 6310i with this 04 3 series and it supports SMS, why then does my 05 E60 not???? Seems crazy to me (much easier to pair as well).
Overall though, can't wait to get the E60 back.
