Default Is 30mpg for a 530d normal?

Had my 2009 530d for a couple of weeks now and the OBC says she is doing just less than 30mpg. I admit that I've been giving it the beans in that time (as you do when you you get your paws on a new toy) but that does seem a little low, I was expecting around 35. Should I go into the hidden menu to check if running cold?

I've maintained 31mpg over my 8k miles roadtrip so it's doable without having any defects.
It really depends on how you're driving, at home I'm now back to 24mpg.

Are you talking Imperial gallons or US gallons? If US, then that is pretty darn good - if Imp., then just OK.

I'm always converting from l/100km, I think it's US gallons. Check it yourself
7,4l/100km during vacation and around 9,5l/100km now.

But the OP is from the UK, which uses Imperial gallons, therefore the question. A US gallon is 80% smaller than the Imp gallon, which makes a good difference in answering the question.

Could be, however, UK mainly measures in litres I think.
I didn't read this morning, that OP expects it to be at even 35mpg.
I reached this for short distances but it's not something I'd expect in the long run.
If it's UK gallons it actually looks like a value you might expect.

Then let's ask the OP. Are you (OP) talking Imp. gallons or US gallons If USG, then then that mileage is great - if Imp gallons then mileage is OK.

It might be worth checking the various thermostats are working, and everything is getting up to temp. 30mpg seems a bit low, even if you are having fun.
