Just got back from the dealership for my car's 30K mile service and was told that this would just be a checkup.
Has anyone done their own oil change? I used to do it for my previous car and was wondering what to look out for.
thanks

The dealership has never denied me an oil change, I usually ask for one about 2k miles before it is due. I just wished I had requested one after the first 5-7K miles, just for peace of mind. I think the oil change intervals are just too long, if you are planning to keep the car for a while, I think it would help to change it more frequently (Even though the synthetic oil is supposed to hold for the recommended service times)
By the way, the 30K miles is just a check up, I was told that one can even stay at the waiting area while they are doing it, about an hour. I wait for the service intervals and take a big list of things that I want to have fixed while it is serviced.

Yep, typically the 1st one is at 16K, then 32K, etc...
Or yearly, depending on how many miles you drive per year.
I had mine done last Oct, I had about 14K miles on it...the SA said that at 16K I would have my normal service.

It's easy to do, especially if you use ramps. There are instructions on the DIY forum, http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showforum=14 , just go there and search. There are also instructions on how to reset the service indicator.

Your car should have had oilchanges at least two times already!
The LL04 oils can hande up to some 15 K miles oil change interwalls.
Do check from your iDrive what needs to be served and when!
I.e. I had my first oil change last week but I did ask them also to change the brake fuils, already.

There must be a misunderstanding here.

At this point, I would like to change the oil myself (or have an independent BMW garage do it for me).

My Ride: 2005 525i Titanium Silver Metalic and 2003 325xi Jet Black with the Premium Package in both cars.
I just had my 30k service last week. They changed my oil for the third time, (my car usually goes about 9500 miles before idrive say to change) and changed air filter, cabin micro filter, front brakes and scoped the engine. Everything seemed OK and the car is running fine.

New engine oils plus filter and also change of the brake fluids and got the CIP 24.2.
I did have some strange problems with the AC fan.
Now the car runs perfect!
