My Ride: 530xiT

I took delivery of a new 530xiT two weeks ago and the next day left for a 3000 mile driving trip from Seattle to Death Valley CA, Phoenix AZ, and back to Seattle. I was somewhat concerned about taking a brand new car on such a trip. My previous car was a 2001 X5 4.4 which I liked very much for long road trips. Here are some of my experiences/opinions/conclusions about the new 530 after my trip.

1. The car ran flawlessly during the entire trip...no problems whatsoever.

2. It's a better car in almost every respect than the X5...handling, comfort, smoothness, etc, its a real pleasure to drive. The power seems similar.

3. The comfort seats are great for long trips....one stretch of driving lasted 19 hours and the seat was never uncomfortable.

4. There is a learning curve with the I Drive/Nav/Sat/communications system. A long trip like I took is a perfect way to get familiar with the controls and how they work...I liked using it, although you have to be careful not to lose concentration on watching the road. It provided a lot of entertainment on otherwise long stretches of boring roads.

5. I averaged 27 MPG for the entire trip. Mostly 70 to 80 MPH.

6. Comfort access is a real plus once you get used to using it. You never have to fish in you pocket for the keys.

This is my forth BMW, and I think...at this point....its the best car I've ever owned.
