Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum after just purchasing an '04 545i M6 last month with 73k miles. Over the weekend I replaced my clutch and the car drove awesome for about 200 miles. Turns out the clutch was fine but the dual mass flywheel was slipping. Anyway, I replaced both.

Today on the way to work I was greeted with the following warnings after driving about 10 miles:

Cruise Control Malfuntion!
DBC Malfuntion!
Drive control System! Drive Moderatly

Does anyone know what could be wrong? Why would all 3 suddenly pop up?? I'm usually a DIY person so I would like to try and troubleshoot this issue without going to the dealer.

Thanks for your help!!

My guess, you need a new battery. Our cars usually start popping up these weird warnings when the battery's at fault .

Hmmmm .... Do you know how long the batteries usually last? This is not an original BMW battery so I assume its on its second battery in 7 years. I would think it should still have some life in it.

I have no idea about the life of the battery. Our cars you cant just put in a battery, you have to get it registered to your car. But i have read that if the battery isn't registered when its installed to the car that it will not last as long. If the battery is registered it will last 2-3 times longer. Maybe the second battery that was installed didn't get registered to your car? Just a guess, you could search the forum i know there's lots of topics about battery's

The batter if installed properly should be good for around 5 years, they are under a tremendous load.

Batteries are an issue with our cars. Some eat them and some don't. Your car has averaged only 10,000 miles per year which is nice and low for you but indicates that the car hasn't been driven a lot. The more it sits the more the battery deteriorates. At the least have the battery checked and then decide what to do.
Regarding the idrive messaages they "could" be the result of a weakening battery. I don't see the warnings coming from your work unless something was disconnected or forgotten.

look at the top of the negative post on the battery. date is stamped on there if its oem.

sounds like a battery issue.

Thanks for the responses. When I left work the errors were gone and it said all systems passed and seems fine now.

The battery is not OEM so I assume it is the second battery.

I agree with other posters - this sounds battery related. If for some reason the battery has become unstable (weak) our cars will will show various iDrive alerts - just as you've experienced. Battery "age" has some bearing on their longevity - but driving more miles than average / year (12K to 15K+ Miles/year) seems to keep the batteries in better health. An alternative, if your car isn't driven that frequently or for longer drives, is to connect a battery tender.
