I just got back from a trip from the Texas/Oklahoma border back to Austin. I averaged 85mph and 28 MPG. When I first got my car I had already accepted only getting ~17mpg since it was a V-8. I had a 2.0 4-cyl VW Jetta that got ~32MPG averaging 80mph and I thought that was decent. I was pretty happy to know that I can get 28mpg with a V8. If I dropped avg speed to 70mph I bet I could hit 30MPG.

It is always good mpg on Interstates / Highways with cruise, less stop n go and less aggressive driving.)
When I drive on Interstates with non-stop , My MPG goes over 30(2008 528 xi)

Wow that is pretty impressive-my 530 would get 33-34 at 75-80 mph and that is an I6 with 80 less hp-pretty impressive v8s for mpg

The best I seem to do on the highway is 24-25, and on my usual 2 mile commute to work through residential neighborhoods stop & go 25mph I only get like 12! Sometimes I look at the MPG readout and think I would have been no worse off buying a Hummer.

If you did this recently, you probably had a 20-30 mph tailwind, which explains the unusually high mileaage. Had you been heading north, into the wind, you'd have probably seen <= 20 mpg. Averaging the two directions would put you in the 24-25 mpg range, which is about what I average at interstate speeds.

Also, is this based on the trip computer? This is usually about 5% or 1mpg optimistic.

Still, not bad for a V8.

Yes I do. In the UK, it's always cold. Everybody should buy cars with the lowest, worst MPG possible. Do what you can to speed up global warming, let's get the UK hot ! Plus, once the UK is nice and hot due to global warming, we won't need to fly overseas to hot countries in the Summer, thus reducing pollution. See, it will all work out in the end. And, as an added bonus, apparently when the sea rises, France will sink.

In a way you are right.

I would love to have a Palm Drive over here instead of the f**ing snow'n'ice,

and as long as US, China and India pollutes as they do...

...but still, s**t would happen, if the Golf stream decided to take a U-turn
