Need to get new tires for a 2004 530 with 225/50/17's. Considering 245/45/17 tires. How would it affect the handling?

Should feel a little stiffer in cornering (less sidewall roll) and over bumps (less shock absorption). Maybe some extra tramlining if you're sensitive to that. 245 is probably about as wide as you can go on a 7.5" rim. Also, the car may feel a little sluggish at first due to the extra tread depth if you are coming off of low tread tires, which is always the case.

+1 on wht CW said, plus ur 138s are 7.5x17, if u were thinking of doing them like the 122s which are 8x17, then you're going to regret it. the 122s sport look are wider, so they can handle 245s, but not the 138s,which are narrower
