1st post in this forum. Does anyone here have any experience on how the Dunlop run flat tires perform on wet roads? I live in Oregon and just got my 545 last month.

I am curious to know how the Dunlop tires will perfrom once the rain comes in Fall and Winter.

According to http://www.dunloptire.com

The SP Sport 01 DSST is
Dry Traction 10
Wet Traction 8
Snow Traction 5
Ride Comfort 7
Quiet Ride 8

I'm not sure if that is the right tire.

You can also read reviews at http://www.tirerack.com

They are the best I have ever had. I tried several brands in 17" on 540. These have yet to cavitate. Only have about 5700 miles though. Tires usually don't do as well as they wear down.

well living in the UK its the middle of summer here. soooooo....it goes without saying that its been raining a lot here lately !!!

last week we had 4 inches of rain in two days where i live and i am happy to report that the 245/275 tyres on my 124 18" wheels performed very very well, not once did the car feel twitchy, both traction and breaking performance were very good IMO.

As a rule of thumb.. i've felt that Dunlop are some of the best tires available....i've always run Dunlop SP9000's on the E46.... and they have never ceased to amaze me.... although I will concede that they do tend to get noisy when they're nearing the end of the line.........

Personally I am not a dunlop fan to be honest.. But I hope the dunlop tires on my E60 will convince me that I was wrong in the past.

northernmonkey, any hydroplaning issues? On the average, freeway speeds here range from 75 mph to 90 mph.

I dont know about the run-flats.. but I do know my SP Sport 9000's.... just make sure you rotate frequently.. as they tend to be on the soft side.... but hey.. you gotta pay for the stickiness somehow.......

In heavy rain 90mph is rather fast.. Even with new tires you can get in trouble if you hit a puddle of water. Be carefull, your life depends on 4 pieces of rubber that touch the road with the palm of your hand.

averagejoe, i always stick to the limits on our motorways and can report no aquaplanning issues at all todate (touch wood). the dunlops seem very capable at shifting large amounts of water very quickly. one of my concerns moving from the smaller E46 coupe to the E60 was high speed bad weather stability but E60 feels solid as a rock......apart from my damn squeaky subwoofer housing see my other recent post.
