I purchased the updated 2011 Nav DVD set from the dealership and am getting a lot of "DVD Read Error" and "Please Insert Navigation DVD" messages. The underside of the disc shows no visible flaws at all. My original 2004 DVD worked fine with 0 errors. I bought one of those DVD cleaner discs and it didn't fix it. Any suggestions?

 

The first time I used an updated DVD my NAV required about 5 minutes to recognize it. Try that and if it still won't read (and your old one works fine) I'd return it to the dealer for a replacement. Load it while there to be sure it's not defective. No other "adjustments" to your car should be required for the DVD to work - Don't let some SA tell you your car needs to be coded. The only data on the DVD is map and POI stuff.

Older BMW NAVs the media actually contained s/w to update the system. Not so for the e60's and I suppose the hard drive NAVs can have firmware and map updates downloaded.
