Although it is a 650 problem I am hoping you guys in the e60 forum may be able to help me out. Last night I took delivery of my 2010 650i. It has the same iDrive as the new 2010 e60. I tried to pair my iPhone 3G (software 2.2.1) with my car. The iPhone recognized the car but the car never recognized the iPhone so no passkey exchange could be done. I called BMW who says the newest iPhone software is not compatible with the car. Since the iPhone software has not changed in a very long time I am surprised it is not compatible. If you have been able to pair your iPhone to your 2010 would you let me know how you did it?

I updated my iPhone to 2.2.1 about a month ago and my phone is still working fine with my 530i. No problems at all.

Is your iPhone bluetooth set to "visible"?

I've not got an iPhone myself but I had the exact same thing with my SE W880i until I set the phone BT to visible. Schoolboy error on my part!

Ive just updated my iPhone to the latest version couple days ago, and it works fine with Idrive. I am sure its just your configuration. Hope you find a solution soon.. vince.

Mine works just fine. Dump all the settings for bluetooth on the car and phone and start from scratch. I've been able to pair it with 09 loaners from BMW as well with no problems. If I have a problem setting it up the first time I start from scratch and it usually works from that point. (Forgot to mention I have the latest software on the iphone.)

Time to eat a little humble pie. If I had noticed the iPhone had a connect button on the upper right of the screen there would have been no problem. There is no problem with the car just with the operator. Thanks to all for the help.

It's great, of course, that you found your mistake and corrected it, but isn't it a shame that BMW is telling folks the iPhone isn't compatible??

Well I am due to pick up my 2010 e60 in Munich on June 21st. I am running iPhone 3.0 beta 5.

I am hoping that the BMW rep didn't didn't mean the new iDrive doesn't work with the upcoming 3.0 software --- I'm expecting that this new version (which is due for general release next month) will work just fine with the BMW. And, maybe it will actually sync contact addresses as well! But that may be asking for too much - for now.

Unfortunately like most help desk the rep I spoke with was clearly going by a script. The first question they ask is what revision of software is on the phone. If the revision is not on their list then the software has not been approved and is not supported. Instead of stopping there the rep should be given enough information to let him try to help a customer out. However I can see some of the problems from the support side with the numbers and variation of other phones available to connect to a BMW. My guess is BMW has a lot of effort going on with Apple since so many of their brochures show an Apple iPhone. I cannot help but believe BMW is doing what they can to ensure compatibility. They just have to watch out for operator error.
