Hi guys,
I recently traded into an 09 550 and have noticed that 9 times out of 10, when i start up the car for the first time the maps on the navigation side menu doesn't load. I have to eject the disc and reinsert several times before it is recognized. This is the same (updated ) disc I used in my 2007 550i. Is the disc faulty? I never had this issue in the 2007. It only happens during a cold start or if the car has been sitting for a couple hours. Has anyone else had this issue and been successful in resolving it?

When I first got my '09 last summer, the Nav disc gave the problems you described, but it sorted itself out thankfully. I guess it could be the disc. I'm sure you wiped it clean. Try making a disc copy on your computer and try the new disc. In case you don't know, the license allows you to make copies for your own backup purposes.

I always make backup copies and use them in the car. The original stays at home. Never had a problem with the PC generated backup disks.

Art,
What version is the disc? Is it a 2009.1? If so, those versions are notoriously error prone..I had one in my car and it never loaded correctly. I thought it was the drive going bad and was about to replace it. Just for giggles, i ordered a burned 2012 copy off of ebay for $45 and my maps load up flawlessly each and every time...
Check your disc version and if it's 2009.1, it's probably a bad disc...
