Hey all,

I need your advise on which car you think would be hit least by depreciation over the next 1 year or so. Both cars are basically the same price, but differ in miles, and options on each.

2010 535i Xdrive 21k Miles M-Sport Package, Premium, Cold Weather, Navigation

or

2009 550i 37k M Package, Cold Weather Package, Sport Package, Comfort Access, navigation, Sirius Radio capability, Logic7 sound, black Dakota leather and Sport automatic transmission

Both cars were put into service around the same time (May 2009), so age-wise they are identical. CPO warranties are also identical in terms

I drive only about 10k per year.

Need your expert advise on this .. what is the better buy? :hyper:

tough call. do they both have the updated i-drive? i may lean towards that.
the 550 may be more desireable, but the extra miles may negate that.

here's a calculator for depreciation...not all cars depreciate at the same rate. http://www.edmunds.com/tco.html

Thanks for the link -- very interesting!

That said, for the OP, I'm more inclined to opt for the newer - lower mileage car. Both seem well optioned and performance wise won't leave you wanting for a fun drive.

If inclement weather is included in your driving the all-wheel system is very good ... If you are mostly in sunny, dry climes rwd adds to the BMW 'feel'

The 2009 has the old i-drive system where as the 2010 has the new one.

I am coming out of a 535i so would love to have the additional power of a 550 but depreciation is the most important factor to me.

I would take the 550, since 550's tend to be better appointed and have more options they depreciate less. Plus that V-8 will help that cause too.

It depends whether you want to be putting power down, or doing peel-outs and burn-outs. Xi will stay planted NO MATTER what. Also, 2010 has newer DME and all the electronics are a level above '09 - everyone on here should know this, really!

Great cars, both of them though - I doubt you'll be unhappy with either. PM me if you have any specific questions

I dunno Vladdy, since he stated they were both had in service dates of 05/09 I highly doubt there is that much difference between the 09 and 10 in this case. All things considered, I'd take the 550 every time.

They'll both depreciate a lot! Buy what you want or you're wasting money.
