I'm not being negative I'm being realistic. All I'm saying is that I seriously doubt that the current 5 series iDrive will be updated to the new iDrive. But the new 5 series may get the new iDrive.

If they optimize the code in a better way than it is now it might work.

Not gonna happen. The folks at Bimmerfile aka rumorfile think if they will it hard enough, it will happen. Official release already left out 5-6 series. They could change their minds, or they could have been lying, but BMW often has different setups going at the same time for the 5-6 series and the 7 series. Just as the X6 has a different V8 motor than the X5, and Google's 'send to' feature while the Z4 and X5 does not, they are all built on the same line, just like the 5, 6 & 7 series.

After just purchasing an 08 535xi just two weeks ago, I secretly wish that the F10 doesn't end up looking better than the current E60. I constantly google for the 2010 F10 hoping to see some shots of it and that it doesn't look as good as the current one, and so far the "speculation" shots look horrible. But then again, they are just that, and they look nothing like the cars shown in spy shots. Well, I can only hope.
As for the iDrive, it took me maybe 30 mins. tops of getting used to it and now it's almost second nature to me. I know the thread isn't about how quirky iDrive can be, but because I feel I've learned it so well, new changes better not be physical and should be just more to do with the computer and some minor options.
