What's DS?
mine has
M
S
and D

2009 535i
Put it in S and watch the display between your tacho and your speedo. It says DS.
(So S == DS)

I have a 2008 and I have to say the auto transmission is great, it shifts smoothly in D & DS and when in D it always seems to be in the right gear and knows to hold the gear when you hit pedal. My 2005 X5 4.4 seemed to stay in the higher gears to long and would lug at lower speeds. They reprogrammed the trans once but it was always a little off. The 535 Auto seems perfect with little trans or Turbo lag. I test drove a 535 in the March 08 and that car did seem to have a lot of lag. My car was made in July and I guess it benefited from the software update.
