I thought u guys knew everything about the e60's, how come no body ever mentioned the 2008 550i, thats going to begin production in March?
Bmw is going Turbo, the new 550i is going to have the same engine as the 545i (4.4 liter V-8), but it will a bi-turbo engine putting out over 400 hp and over 400 lbs/tq. BMW isnt just going to beat the competition, but destroy them. there also going to put the 335i engine into the 5 series which is good news for the people who are planning to buy one and bad news for anyone who just bought one.

It's old news regarding the 4.4 V8 bi-turbo and 3 liter I6 bi-turbo engines. All that is known, at least by me, is that the 535i which will be release first quarter 2007, will have the I6 bi-turbo. As for the 4.4 V8 bi-turbo, no one is certain when it will bow. Some say it will debut in the F10 platform which won't appear until 2009/2010 or so.

Like Vegas said, the bi-turbo 550i and 535i is (very) old news. Are you saying the 550i bi-turbo is coming in March 2007? And what is the source?

I really doubt a 550i with a 4.4 Bi turbo will come anytime soon. I think if BMW wanted to keep the 4.4 litre engine alive they would not have developed the 4.8 for the current 550...X5 4.8 or 750..... also do you guys think with the M5 being 400 bhp without the M mode, they will bring on something whcih will be cheaper and have similar everyday performance? Making the regular e60 400 bhp will mean to push the bechmark for the M5 to 500-600 bhp in non M and M mode respectively..

The good indicator (at least for US) is the lease Money Factor. Right now it is 0.0005(1.2%) for 525 and 530. To me it means that new 6-cyl engines are coming within next 3-6 month. It is also obvious that 535 will make 550 underpowered and over-priced. Still right now MF for 550 is 0.0015(3.6%) that means nothing new within next 6 month. I would expect a new 8-cyl engine closer to the end of 2007 beginning of 2008. I am not sure about destroying the competition though. E550 has 382hp 5.5 liter engine that can easily be pushed to over 400hp.

Your source for this tit bit would be nice. There may be a 535 Bi-turbo in March 07 production. BUT V8 bi-turbo? Slim chance

Current 550 engine is here to stay until the mext MAJOR redo... 2011.

Driving 535/550 back to back, the 550 still has 60 additional HP and 60 additional ft/lbs of torque. You can feel a 60/60 delta.... more so than the difference between Cararra and Cararra S.

There is no substitute for displacement.

I wish you were right, but there is. It is called turbocharging. In a real life situation the twin-turbo I6 put into a lighter body will be as fast if not faster that the heavier V8. 335 sedan has been tested at 4.8 sec to 60mph already. Bigger and somewhat heavier 535 will be around 5.0-5.2 sec. That's exactly where 550 is right now. BMW has to do something. A more powerful V8 will probably come sometime next year; otherwise even 0.00% financing will not help.
