My Ride: BMW 535XI ?
Default 2008 BMW 535XI -- What to look for?

Hello! -- New member here. I am going to look at a 08 535XI tomorrow, 61k Miles, seems to be in good condition with upgraded BMW wheels. I was looking for some insight as to what to pay attention to when I look at it to ensure everything is in good form. Also, what are your thoughts on this particular model and do I have any chance of it not ending up being a repair money pit? Any insight would be really helpful -- thanks!

Locate a good BMW independent shop and have them perform a pre-purchase inspection.

My suggestion is to, if possible, drive it hard. You are looking for misfires and check engine light/limp mode. You want to also find out if any injectors or high pressure fuel pump has been replaced and also if the intake has been cleaned/walnut blast. When I purchased my 08 535xi almost 3 years ago, it had bad/leaking injectors and a bad hpfp, dealer replaced 2 injectors and the pump, I replaced the remaining injectors myself. I have also had issues with the vanos solenoids and the intake was coked up pretty bad. Since all these repair have been completed, the car has been running great for 2 years. Other problems include broken wires for the trunk lid, dtml pump, tie rod ends and coolant flush due to non bmw coolant in the engine. With the exception of the hpfp and 2 injectors, I have done all repairs myself and did not cost much, many places online to get discounted bmw parts. This is a diy friendly car for the most part, so if you are into that it won't be too bad. I was aware of most issues before I bought the car so I don't regret it at all. So the biggest thing is being aware of all possible common issues and then make a decision based on that. Do all homework on the car, maintenance history and current condition.
