Hi all I have been lurking for about a month but haven't posted anything. Now I have a crazy story to tell.
I got a used 2008 BMW 550i and after about a month of ownership on long trips it would over heat once and awhile, once I got into the city. I have read hours every night forums after forums trying to get a clue to what it could have been. Most of what I came up with was it had to be thermostat. So I made a appt to take to to a local shop Friday and decided to take it for a quick spin and wash it on Thursday. After coming out of the car wash and they were wiping it down, looking good, suddenly we heard a load pop and steam and antifreeze stated coming from under the car. Sad to say, I have no warranty since I bought it used with 65,000 miles on it. But it is still under the BMW assist so they came and pick it up and took it to the stealer. Funny they didn't even call me today to talk about the car. So guess it will have to be down till after labor day to find out what is wrong with it.
Will post more after I find out what the dealer finds out. I really hope it wasn't a head gasket or the pipe that runs thru the middle of the engine.
And and posting to say if you have a over heating problem get it checked out quickly before it strands you, lucky for me I was 3 blocks from the house. The fan would kick on with the A/C, the coolant wasn't low after driving 2,800 miles, heater worked while over heating, and fan would be on 2 out of 3 times it was warning to drive moderately, So after ever thing I read wouldn't narrow it down to anything.
Feed back is welcome, and would love to know it anyone has had a problem like this or even if any of you have a guess what could have caused it.. maybe I over looked a post some where and hopefully there is a recall.
