2008 550i 172 Wheels/Conti SportContact2

I have had 2 tire failures and 1 rim damage event in 6 weeks of ownership. Live in South Louisiana...lot of potholes and other unavoidable hazards. Finally, a buddy suggested I use a little overinflation to stem any more tire damage. So I am using the "over 100 mph" inflation schedule inside the driver door. That strategy seems to be working.
My question is with the BERU sensors in the wheels, are the valve stems interchangeable? The dealer here replaced the valve stem with a 43mm instead of using a 51 like on the other wheels....I have M Double Spoke 172 wheels. A little harder to get an air hose on that wheel, too.
Thanks

As for the stems, they should be interchangable but are usually replaced with the tire. In terms of size, why did they put the smaller stem in rather than the OEM size? Was this done at the dealer or an independent tire shop?

The lower profile tires are an issue in areas like our where the potholes are a dime a dozen. Have all the tire failures been from impacting potholes? The over inflation may help with that but will not help with nails and other debris puncturing the tire. I've been through several PS2's in the last 5,000 miles because of nails. Not much can be done about that unfortunately...
