Hi I have 2008 550 it has only 3000 mile on it and I had a massage to add 1 qt off oil I went to the dialer they add the oil and told me its a normal thing

For me its not normal I had much older car before whit a lot of miles and I never had to add oil I guess my new car eats oil or its liking

Does anybody knows if it happens and why ?

This is my 3rd 2008 5 series and i never got a message to add oil. Could be a 550i thing .. but i dont know why you should need oil that soon. But every vehicle is different. I would keep a close eye on it though

Hey bmwfan, don't worry about it. Mine did the same thing at 5000 miles and I had to add some oil myself since I couldn't be bothered to bring the car all the way to the dealer. The V8 on the 550i is quite a gas guzzler and especially if you ride hard then the oil needs to be added more often.

It's nothing weird or anything, so I wouldn't be worried about the car.

My 07 550 needed oil at about 5000km , the dealer actual supplied a litre when I bought the car and gave me the heads up that it would be required at some point during the breakin period........ I would'nt sweat anything ............. top it up and go have some more fun !!

I just picked up a 08 550i sport and wanted to know what the factory fill viscosity is (0w40?)?

Also, it is my understanding that it is filled with BMW synthetic? Does anyone know if BMW synthetic is the same as Mobil 1 (just rebranded) and if Mobil 1 full synthetic can be used to top off?

I had the add a quart message at 6000 miles. Called BMW, gave vin# and they told me to use Castrol 5-30 syntethic.
