Did the 3rd instalment of the high rpm run as per post #12. Coming off I26 I drive in automatic so the engine can cool down for a few miles. I am getting misfires and after trying to accelerate the engine keeps misfiring continuously. I am close to home and pull into my driveway. Even in neutral the engine keeps shaking. I think the CEL came on briefly and went off. Since I am home I stop the engine and let it cool off. I restart later and engine runs smoothly. Mileage 33K miles.
My DIS diagnostics point to: "DME - 29D2 DME: Combustion misfires, cylinder 6 - with fuel shutoff - Fault currently not present - Fault would cause warning light (MIL) to light up - Misfire detection B1214_MISFIRE3 "
The report has a: "Note: Sporadic fault due to unfavourable ambient conditions." (Could be me running engine at 4,500 RPM in 3rd for 25 minutes.)
The fuel I was running contained the recommended amount of BMW Techron cleaner.
I intend running the car for a couple hundred miles in normal driving conditions and than decide what to do. I need to make an appointment with the dealer regarding the recent battery cable recall and was thinking of having them check out the misfire situation. Since there is no CEL on, they probably cannot reproduce the error. Like they cannot see what am looking at!
I am also stopping the "Italian tune-up" procedure for the time being.
