I have had my 535i now for one year and about 5 months ago I started noticing a strange ticking or tapping noise coming from the engine. I only hear it in the morning when the engine is cold and it is very quiet. After about 5 minutes of driving the noise goes away. Once I start to drive I don't hear it anymore as the road noise cancels it out. It doesn't bother me but I just want to make sure it will not develope into something worse as the warranties in Germany are only 2 years! I haven't taken it to the dealership yet as they will probally just tell me it is a normal engine noise.

mine did the same thing and my rep guy just blew me off, but i kept at him and turns out i was right! for me it was the waste gate. mine didnt go away after the car warmed up tho,if i was in town i could still hear it when i came to stop lights ect. go get it checked out it doesnt cost anything.

No, a wastegate is a valve that diverts exhaust gases away from the turbine wheel in a turbocharged engine system.
