To be fair, ride quality on C class is much better than 3 series.
Sure, 5 series is nicer than C class, as they are not in the same class, but in terms of ride quality, C is pretty close (Can't say this on 3 series).

Not because I have one, but I think u should go xi (if u like speed). To me my car us very reliable. He hadn't failed me yet. U just have to know how to take care of ur car. They r high maintenance.

I driven both c class and the 535i. The 535i is in a different league, much better car. Now if we were comparing 3 series to c class I'd go for the c class. The 3 series do nothing for me.
Go for the 535i, it's a beast with tons of power.

What is there to like about the interior of a C-Class over a 535? To me the C-class has one of the cheapest interiors going for a luxury brand. If you are really concerned about comfort and have to have a really nice interior, look at an Audi A6 3.2. The car is not as sporty as a 5er, the engine is silky smooth and quiet and Audi makes the best interiors.

I just sold my 2002 A6 Avant. It's not that I don't love my 5, but that cars interior and ride was way better even though it was 8 years old with 130,000 miles. I am a driver though, and you can not compare the steering and the road feel to the 5. My wife actually liked driving the A6 better because it was "easier" and more comfortable. She said that she felt the 5 gives her a workout. She wants to trade the 5 in for another Audi, but I would rather have a newer 5 with a little more power. The 215hp and xi handling do not cut it.

If you are willing to spring for the 535, why not get the 2008 550 which has the gorgeous M Tech body kit, the killer style 172 wheels and an amazing sounding V8 with no HPFP issues.
But between a 535 and a C Class Benzo.....come on, you know what to do. The C Class, is no even remotely in the same universe as the 535. If you were talking C63, that's one thing. But the lower echelon C class cars don't hold a candle to the 3 Series let alone the E60.

Ok guys, you convinced my wife to get a 5 searies. Also, we're warming up to the idea of 2008 550i + M body kit. I'm rather worried about gas mileage. I wanted this to be my wife's daily car, but because of this, it would have to be my daily (my commute's not far). What do you all think about this one: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ctd/1936592237.html
Price is waay above my original budget, but the mileage is good. It's missing two important things I want (but I can probably live without them): split fold down rear seats, and heated seats (basically the Cold Weather package).

Don't be swayed by the negativity of the N54 engines...they are a good engine, and the HPFP issues are usually resolved by the dealership (either warranty or CPO). It's a great engine none the less....much more room in a 5er too! good luck...
