Default 2008 528i radio only bass, no treble

Hey everyone,

I have a 2008 528i with 68k miles. About 3 weeks ago, I started my car and noticed that the speakers were only transmitting a muffled bass sound. The idrive is working fine, except for this audio issue. I replaced fuses #18 & 34 to see if it would help, but no difference. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Someone has to do it...

That's an interesting issue. Is it like this from all audio sources (CD, radio, bluetooth)? What about when you hear the seatbelt chime? I'm curious if the amplifier has failed partially.

apologies for the late reply! I don't know about the CD but AM/FM as well as AUX are not working. The seatbelt chime still comes through however. I am seeing videos talking about going into the trunk and bypassing one of the modules with a fiber optic loop, not sure if this would help. Really haven't found anything substantial regarding this issue.

the besy way is to eliminate via this method unless you plug an inpa reader to find out where the fault is as the fibre optic loop must be broken somewhere

yea, I think at this point the loop might be the next best option. I went to my car this morning and replaced fuses 59 & 73 (as I had a few spare fuses) but no difference. Also, I don't know how it took so long for me to notice this but the door chime is gone!

UPDATE: I purchased a fibre optic loop and bypassed the TCU module, but that did not work. My car does not have a satellite module so I don't know which other module I can try bypassing. Bummer...

Or buy a BMW code reader. They're like $50 on Amazon.
