My Ride: 2008 528i
Default 2008 528i odometer discrepancy

Hello I'm new to this forum & trying to find some help on here regarding an issue I'm having with a 528i. Here's my situation, I bought a 2008 528i at an auction here in town. My son drove it home & it drove great. I haven't received the title yet. Supposedly there is a delay with the title. Anyways when I had bid on the car the odometer read 88355 miles, after I paid for the vehicle + taxes & fees i was told there was a discrepancy with the mileage reading although auction personal did not know what it was as they did not have the title as of yet. Did a carfax report & found that mileage should be 150001 not 88355. I have read some threads where if there is a problem in what the ecu has in memory or an issue with with the instrument cluster there will be "tamper" dot between the odometerreading & trip log. The car does have a dot in that location. How would I get the odometer to read what it should? I'm taking the key to the dealer so they can read the information of it I guess because actual mileage is stored also in the key. Can any one point me in the proper direction?

When you take it to the dealership have them look at it and diagnose it. That would be the easy, quickest way. It might cost $$ but at least you know it will be right

So I took the key to the dealer & had it scanned and now there's something not kosher going on. Service adviser scanned the key fob 3 times as the reading was coming back as a different car & mileage, came back as a 08 X5 with 10,000,000 miles. Adviser & tech scanned the fob at a different scanner & came back the same info. Neither tech or adviser can't explain why the 528i is even starting. So I got home & checked the DME for the vin & it is for a 08 X5. Is it possible to get the DME, CAS & key programmed to the correct vin & mileage by reading information off of the LCM?

Someone had an issue and had to replace parts. When they did the vin was programmed to get the car started and now you have an issue you're not going to be able to get rid of
