Recently the on board computer on my 2008 528i has been acting strange. When I start the car....the screen goes to the brown and black BMW logo screen. It will stay this way for a couple minutes...then it restarts....the logo screen will re-appear....stay on for a couple minutes....then it will go to the standard menu screen. I am using an after market navigation DVD....in case this could matter....

Any thoughts...I have also been receiving a lot of DVD errors of late, too.

One other note...the issue seems to be driven by the temperature...less prevalent in the summer or on warm mornings...worse during the cold. Also, it is generally more isolated to the first start up of the day....then, after that, not generally an issue.

 

It's most likely not a DVD issue. It's not getting that far. If you think it is, take out DVD and then test on the cold morning. But again, it is not getting to the DVD part and a DVD does not make the MASK/CCC reboot.

 

So...does it sound like the computer is going bad...the odd part is the whole temperature thing...

(by the way, what's the MASK/CCC?)
