My Ride: 2007 525xi
Hi everyone - new to the forum, as well as various other BMW-related ones
I just got me a 2007 525xi - 45k miles, well kept, detailed maintenance history, etc. Didn't get it from a BMW dealership, but I did get a 3yr warranty on the powertrain.
Been driving it around for about a week now, and just some things I've noticed:
* When I'm startin from a dead stop - it seems to be rather slow to accelerate. I'm used to slowly easing on the gas to get to a start.. but that approach seems to be leaving me nowhere. If I'm a bit more agressive on the gas, it'll take off plenty fast though. It's hard to describe it.. but it feels almost as if I was driving with the e-brake on during that time.
* Again with starting from a stop: When the car shifts from 1/2 (or 2/3... can't tell which one), it'll often "jerk" between them. The kind of jerk of like when someone who doesn't quite know how to drive a manual shifts.
Any thoughts/ideas?
I'm mechanically and technically inclined - not afraid to go digging around under the hood, and have done so on previous cars. Ideas/pointers help though.
Thanks!

Hi. I experienced similar problem with my E60. It happened intermittently that when I start the engine, it jerks. The feeling is like a manual transmission car left in the 2 nd gear and then it's engine being started. Help!!

In "D" and when accelerating from a stop (at a "normal" pace) your e60xi is actually starting in 2nd gear. I too notice that if I tip in to the accelerator it'll force a downshift to 1st and may feel a bit jerky.
Around town you might consider driving in DS - that will have your car start in "1st" and it might feel smoother. It'll actually feel a bit more aggressive as it shifts through the gears (NOT in 'manual' mode - DS in full automatic) .

Try automatic transmission reset (search this forum for info on how to do it) . Since you have bought it used, the automatic transmission has learned the previous owner's driving style. you may reset this and try ..
