Here in Idaho we still think that a Volvo is part of a female's body..
or some kind of potatos. Sorry, can't help it.

Got my wife one about a month ago. The Jeep Commander lease was up and if you wanted to lease a 7 seater the Volvo XC90 was the only choice with a reasonable lease payment. Not sure why we never looked at one before, but we both love it so far.

Congratulations on a great second car! XC90's are very nice I seriously considered one myself. Beautiful interior colors and..my favorite option...the wood steering wheel! Hope it proves to be a good car for you!

We looked the V8 before buying my wife's 2007 X5. You say the the engine is a Yamaha engine, but we test drove the car and our sales guy tells us it's the same V8 as the Taurus! Not exactly a selling point in our view. But overall seemed a really solid vehicle...

I don't think the sales guy you spoke with is right - the V8 in the XC90 was indeed co-developed with Yamaha and to the best of my knowledge it is unique to the XC90. It's a very good engine. We looked at the XC90 when my wife was looking for a new car, and if my local dealer had been a bit more willing to deal we may well have ended up in one.

I would not be happy about anything Japanese in my vehicle. Their products lately are declining in reliability. Yamaha outboard motors recently went through a bad production run that would blow the motor apart due to badly engineered oxygen sensors.

There is about 20 years of history with Yamaha and Ford. Originally, back before the big war, Ford was going to build a Corvette Hunter/Killer, with Yamaha doing to head design for the new V6. The project was killed, but Ford ended up contracting with Yamaha to produce the entire engine, and thus the SHO was born. There were three model changes with the SHO, and the last one being the V8 that is VERY similar to what is found in the Ford owned Volvo division.

Wasn't implying he was correct, just that it wasn't a real strong selling point in our view...
