If you people had a choice between a 2006 530 or a 2005 545, knowing that the 530 is the next model, which will stick around, and the 545 will be upgraded to the 550, which would you pick?

545 all the way. You only live once and gas is only $1.50 a gallon. And you can buy beef jerky when you like. I wish we had beef jerky in the UK.

My first question would be, have you driven a 545 yet. My guess is no. If you had, you would not ask this question. Get the V8. 255HP is nice, but 325 is absolutely intoxicating. Besides, optioned out, the 545 is only another 4-5K. Think also about resale, the 545 will always be better. You could wait for the 550, but there will just be something else coming out that will catch your attention. Besides, you could die tomorrow.

Still the 545... The MY06 is a bunch of hokey pokey March and they are making the next model year its ridiculous! Tell you the truth... unless I know of BIG BIG changes like the old E39 going from the old Xenons to Angel eyes then I dont care... when looking for a used car a Aug 02 and a Sept 02 build car I really dont give a rats ass about even though its a different model year, they're both just as old or just as new. But anyways... unless you're going to get the 550 get the 545 instead of the 530 but 550 is months of waiting and more money... tough decision... For me I think at this time prob up until July... I would still get the 545 and after that since its sooo close to the 550 I'll wait for the 550... but heck... I already got a 545 no more waiting!

Having owned the 530 for a month, and having driven an E36 M3 for 6 years, I can tell you that the 530 is deceptively powerful, thanks to the smooth ride, and I actually often find myself going way too fast without realizing it. I'm sure you won't have any regrets with the 530, should you decide to go with it.
