I have 2500 miles on my 2005 which I picked up 10/21/04 and no problems with the car. I think most of the problems you hear are user issues.

I have 4300 miles on my e60. No problems. The build quality is flawless. I look forward to every chance that get to drive it.

I have 1800 miles in 4 weeks on my 530i. You'd think I'm living in it!!

No problems at all.... MY2005. I treasure every time I have to go somewhere now! Even heavy traffic is a pleasure.

I got one of the first e60's in October 2003 and 10k miles later I'm happy as a clam. The first models had some software/cupholder snafus which my dealer fixed quickly and with a smile. I'm more interested in timely response to minor problems than the simple existence of minor problems...and I got that in spades.

My only continuing gripe is I really want Bluetooth and I suspect it ain't gonna happen....but on some level I knew that kind of issue could crop up when I bought the first run of a new model....you needn't worry here.

I have a 2004 545i 6sp, manufactured in late May. After 8,000 miles the car has been absolutely perfect (knock on wood). Not one single problem of any type. Best car I've ever driven.

(I did have an issue with the cellphone and echo's, but I got a new cellphone and the problem has been corrected - I wouldn't count that as a car problem).
